Privacy policy

Lorewalk is a daily expedition game: one real place a day, five short encounters, one ranked attempt. This page says what the app stores about you, why, and how to have it removed. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.
What we store
- An anonymous account. When the app first runs it creates an anonymous sign-in with Firebase Authentication. This gives you a random identifier so your progress can be saved. No email address, phone number or password is collected.
- Your Wayfarer. The name you give your character, your companion's name and kind, and the look you chose.
- Your play. For each day you finish: which encounters you answered, whether each answer was right, how long each took, your score, and the date. Your daily score and your Wayfarer's name appear on that day's public leaderboard.
- Your answers to open questions. When an encounter asks for a free-text or estimated answer, the text you typed is sent to our servers to be scored and may be sent to an AI model (Google Vertex AI) to compose the short explanation you see afterwards. Do not type personal information into answers; it is not needed and it may be stored with your run.
- Reminder settings. If you turn on the daily reminder, the time you chose is stored on your device only. Reminders are local notifications; nothing about them leaves your phone.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no ad identifiers.
- No selling or sharing of your data with third parties for their own purposes.
- No precise location. The app never asks for your location; the places you visit are the same for every player each day.
- No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
Who processes the data
The app runs on Google Firebase and Google Cloud (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Hosting, Vertex AI), in the United States. Google acts as our processor under its Firebase data processing terms. Basic crash and performance data may be collected by the platform (Apple, Google) according to your device settings.
Purchases
Optional purchases (such as a Pass to replay missed days) are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We receive a confirmation that a purchase was made, never your payment details.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. A parent who believes a child has used the app can write to us and we will remove the data.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your play history is kept so that your Library and streak persist. To delete everything, use Delete my data in the app's settings, or email ohheyhugo@gmail.com from any address with your Wayfarer's name and the date you last played; we will delete the account and its runs within 30 days. Leaderboard entries are removed with the account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA) you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to certain processing. Email us and we will act on it. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will tell you the next time it opens. The date at the top always shows the current version.
